Alphalab
End-to-end development of brand, communication, and digital systems across a group of interconnected companies in diagnostics and biotechnology.
The collaboration spans three companies founded and led by the same person. While each serves a distinct function at different stages of maturity, the work developed as a continuous relationship – expanding from focused design tasks into aligning identity, communication, and digital systems across all three.
Initial Engagement
The partnership began with Explana, a medical research laboratory operating a network of diagnostic services. The initial work focused on redesigning the visual identity and establishing clear usage guidelines – giving the brand a consistent, adaptable visual language for use across materials and settings.
Digital Surface
The next stage expanded into a redesign of the Explana website, combining informational content with a structured catalog of medical tests and e-commerce functionality. The work covered information architecture, visual design, and user experience – with final development handed off to the company's internal technical team, who managed integration with existing systems.
Brand Transformation
In 2024, the partnership reactivated through Alphalab, a company developing and producing PCR-based diagnostic systems. Following industry exposure, the team recognized a misalignment between their external presentation and the actual maturity of their work. The collaboration opened with a strategic roadmap – mapping the full scope of work, sequencing priorities, and setting a timeline aimed at a complete repositioning before their next major conference appearance.
This grew into a full-cycle transformation: repositioning and communication strategy, a new visual identity, redesigned test packaging developed in close collaboration with laboratory staff and production partners, a rebuilt website, and a complete conference presence – exhibition stands, printed materials, and promotional assets.
Early-Stage Identity for Scientific Startup
During the Alphalab transformation, a parallel initiative emerged through Pyovita, an early-stage biotech startup focused on developing novel cancer treatments. The work focused on establishing a clear yet flexible positioning and a visual identity that establishes a distinct presence while leaving room to grow.
A lightweight website was designed and developed on the same CMS architecture as Alphalab, allowing the internal team to manage both systems within a shared environment.
